February brought in a very tough week for Genentech and their parent company Roche in the world of social media. The week kicked off with a front page LA Times article regarding the FDA’s decision to limit the use of their drug Tarceva, after 12 years of profits.(Note: I was quoted in this article)

This article went viral fairly quickly on Twitter!

There was also a great amount of discussion among the Oncologists on Twitter.

and the biotech twitterverse took note of the article:

On Facebook there was a lot of discussion about this article:

From Bad to Worse

Things worse on Social Media for Genentech today when the Wall Street Journal published this troubling story of Genentech’s lobbying efforts led by now deceased VP Evan Morris.

and then the Twitterverse erupted!

Facebook started to light up as well with interest in the article.

The Huffington Post picked up the story and published an article on Genentech’s deceased lobbyist as well.

Genentech had some of their own social media to share this week.

The first tweet referred to their “Giving Back” culture.

Another Tweet focused on a Job Shadow Day for High School Students. I wonder if political lobbying was discussed as a career option?
